With a record 1,726 exhibiting companies representing more than 6,000 brands,
NAMM is a must for MI suppliers in South Africa, and of course Prosound sent two of
their music gurus to attend. The Distribution Manager and Audio GM, musicians as
well as tech fundis, were well-placed to experience the latest industry trends and
product releases while meeting with Prosound suppliers, including Audio-Technica,
Electro-Voice and P.Audio.
Although for more aesthetic reasons, there seems to be much excitement around
the limited edition ATH-M50xMG headphones in matte grey, Audio-Technica showed
off some interesting additions to their professional headphone and Artist Elite
microphone ranges.
The E-Series (for ear) in-ear headphones are a first for the Japanese audio giant.
Portability is a must for today’s musician, monitoring from the stage to the studio.
Prosound is looking forward to testing these IEM headphones with the wireless
systems from Audio-Technica.
More Audio-Technica news came in the form of the attractive new AE2300 dynamic
cardioid instrument microphone. Ideal for multi-mic setups, the double-dome
diaphragm and switchable low-pass filter will ensure an even frequency response in
any situation. The editors of Electronic Musician Magazine have selected their
favorite gear from #NAMM2016 and the AE2300 Dynamic Cardioid Instrument
Microphone made the cut.
It came as no surprise to the Prosound team that the winner of the NAMM TEC
(Technical Achievement Award) was the ATH-R70x open-back pro monitor
headphones. Its transient clarity and light-weight design have made it a studio
speciality.
