Over the last two weeks the SACIA task team has been hard at work preparing
SACIA’s submission to ICASA’s request for comments of the Draft National Radio
Frequency Spectrum Plan 2017 (NRFP 17).
The task team was headed up by Pieter Grootes, an independent consultant working
in the communications sector. Other members of the task team included Mark
Malherbe (Prosound), Mark Gaylard (MGG), Llewellyn Reinecke (Gearhouse), Gavin
Atkinson (Audiosure), Jeff Isaacs (Wild & Marr) and Johannes Von Weyssenhoff
(Starwaves).
The submission was funded by contributions from DNG, Visual Impact, Core
Productions, AV Unlimited, Gearhouse, MGG, Prosound, Red Pepper, AVTech,
Audiosure, Bosch, Jasco, SoundCom, Sound Harmonics and Peripheral Vision.
A copy of the submission is available at this link. Oral submissions are taking place
on 9-10 February and SACIA hopes to present the document at this time.
SACIA has three specific requests:
• They have asked that ICASA increase the 50 mW ERP limitation on wireless
microphones to 100 mW ERP throughout all bands
• They have asked that they develop a wireless migration strategy that
includes the use of wireless microphones from 470 MHz to 854 MHz, and
• They have requested an opportunity to engage with ICASA directly on
matters related to the Radio Frequency Spectrum Regulations of 2015
