Billed as South Africa’s friendliest festival, Splashy Fen is one of the country’s longest-running music festivals and enjoys a cult-like following among many of Kwazulu’s more free-spirited residence. Production company, Impi Concept Events, has managed Splashy Fen for the past three years, breathing new life into the festival and has brought some very competent technical expertise on board to transform a working farm into an international-standard festival ground, including Andrew Loubser of Slingshot Productions who serves as the production manager for the event.
Speaking to Pro-Systems in a recent interview, company director, Stuart Berry explains that the event was under severe financial stress in 2015 when he and his partner Andrew van Rensburg decided to take the event on. “We believe in the potential of Splashy Fen, and have put together a fantastic team that work seamlessly together to deliver a family-friendly event that is more than a music festival – it is a feast for the senses.”
Impi Concept Events rely on Pietermaritzburg-based rental company Sounds Ideal to deliver full technical for the five stages on offer at Splashy Fen. Company director of Sounds Ideal, Nadeem Moosa used a d&b system for the main stage, ensuring that the riders of both international and local artists were adhered to and NEXO Alpha systems for the electric dance music stage that is so loved by the festival’s younger visitors. For lighting, Moosa has drawn on the considerable talent of Shaneil Laloo, who used a Chamsys 500 desk and an array of Chauvet fixtures to deliver a stunning lightshow for the main stage.
