Hillcrest Primary School in KwaZulu-Natal is embracing the use of cutting edge technology in the classroom to ensure that educators have the latest hi-tech tools available for delivering excellent lessons.
Tammy Tanner and Lynne Bolzli, who head up the school’s IT & AV Departments, facilitated Hillcrest Primary School’s initiative to upgrade all classrooms to enable multimedia lessons. The school has a fibre optic backbone in place, and teachers can connect to the local network and internet via their laptops. Thanks to Steve Maree’s ongoing work, teachers can also use their laptops in the classroom to project data (AVs, documents, worksheets, and others) onto screens. The school has been working with Maree, of Natal Video, since 2012 and during this time some 32 projectors and 39 screens have been installed in various classrooms and venues throughout the school. The annual budget also makes provision to bring additional classrooms on board.
The kit list includes Panasonic projectors, screens from Elite Screens, Kramer WXA1 passive wall plates, and Kramer VGA cables. Tanner and Bolzli are delighted with Maree’s professional approach: “He has been most accommodating with our time-constraints and has always made every effort to fit in with our schedules. Maree continuously offers sound advice and constantly keeps us updated and well informed on product trends.’
They were particularly excited about the wall plates: “The use of Kramer Wall Plates in all venues has added a new dimension to the level of quality and efficiency that Hillcrest Primary School strives for.’
