Hamad Medical Corporation has established itself as one of the Middle East’s leading hospital providers through an exceptionally high standard of care. As part of its commitment to maintaining its levels of excellence, the hospital wanted to enhance its long-term patients’ comfort by deploying an IPTV system to both entertain them and help them feel connected to the outside world. Deployed throughout the hospital and in individual patient rooms at the specialist Tertiary Communicable Disease Center, the Exterity IPTV system entertains and supports the patients, guests and visitors while they are being treated, waiting or visiting the hospital campus.

Deployed by Exterity authorised channel partners, the Exterity IPTV and digital signage system facilitates the delivery of 120 live channels and Video on Demand (VOD) channels to long-term patients. Additionally, due to the high expat population, the IPTV user interface supports Arabic, English and other languages. The Exterity solution also integrates with the Nurse Call system, enabling patients to use remote controls to operate their TV via Exterity Media Players as well as call for medical support.

The IPTV system is complemented by Exterity’s digital signage solution, ArtioSign, which enables the hospital to create, manage and display eye-catching, dynamic digital signage. Seamless integration with Exterity’s IP video solutions enables live TV and video to be quickly incorporated into impactful signage screens that inform, communicate with and engage patients, guests and staff around the hospital.

Colin Farquhar, chief executive officer at Exterity, said: “An increasing number of healthcare organisations recognise the importance video is playing in facilitating patients’ recovery by reducing stress and keeping minds occupied during lengthy stays in hospital. We strongly believe that video is more than entertainment, and we are proud that our IPTV system is playing a role in making patients at HMC feel more comfortable.”
